Jenkins Estate self-guided tour
Jenkins Estate is a 68-acre historic estate located in Beaverton, Oregon, where you can walk enjoying breathtaking views of gardens and the Tualatin Valley.
Jenkins Estate property is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. While walking in its trails, paths, gardens, and buildings, you will feel how it looked like living in the early 20th century.
As an interesting fact, Ralph and Belle Ainsworth Jenkins purchased this farmland as their summer house in 1912, and the gardener for the prime minister of Canada planed their gardens.
In 1976, the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District acquired this property that is now open to the public.
What to see and do
You won’t believe I’ve never been to this magical location living just 25 minutes from there.
That day, we were looking for a quick and peaceful walk with my daughter after lunch, and that’s when I remembered I have this place on my list, so we decided to go.
Mostly this location, with its historic and gorgeous buildings, holds public and private events throughout the year. Also, it’s a wedding venue, and when you visit this place, you understand why people get married there, it’s stunning. Keep in mind that due to those events, some areas may be closed during your visit.
Still, if you are not there for an event, some of the activities you can enjoy are, for instance, walking in the 2.25 miles trails, admiring the English picturesque style gardens, or picnicking with beautiful views of the Tualatin Valley.
Additionally, as a photographer, let me tell you this is a perfect location for portraiture and also for nature photography, especially if love flowers like me.
And talking about photography, guess what happened? I ended taking tons of photos of my daughter and the flowers. But I will come back for more!
Finally, I want to mention that this location is connected with Camp Rivendale’s playground. That extra feature makes this place ideal for a good day of adventures with kids, playground, hiking trails, and picnic area (our favorite combination).
As a summary, I can share with you that this place was a pleasant surprise. We loved walking there with my daughter in its tranquil settings. Our favorite part was visiting the different gardens, and of course, the flowers!
And in case you want to extend your walk from Jenkins Estate, you are minutes away from Cooper Mountain Nature Park or Tualatin Hills Nature Park.
Pin for later!
