Pirate Park: one of the best playgrounds in Portland

Be ready for a pirate adventure on this 16-acre park located in the Bethany area. Lot of fun things to do for kids of all ages.

Pirate Park is one of our favorite playground destinations closed to our home! This Park includes several play structures and features that make kids utilize their imagination and channel their inner pirate (and adults too, why not?😁).

What to see and do

Pirate Park was the first playground we visited after the reopening last month and we were so excited! My kids love this place!

This 16-acre park includes an adventure-style playground (pirate theme) with a lookout area, a structure for smaller kids, several fun slides, climbing features, swing sets (toddler swings included), and also a sandpit.

Beyond playing in the park, you can also access paved trails; in that way, you can combine this adventure with a nice bike ride or walk since this place is within the Rock Creek Greenway.

What to love

This pirate theme park is located on a hilly landscape, and at the top of the hill, you can find an island lookout and a pirate ship with features for smaller kids, and from there, you can slide into the next pirate adventure, a structure with more slides and climbing features for bigger kids.

Another feature that my kids loved were the walkway bridges between different sections of the park and play structures.

Also last but not least the sandpit is so much fun!

Important information and tips

  • Location: Near NW Energia Street between NW Brandberry Drive and NW Graf St, Portland, OR 97229.
  • Website.
  • Open daily, dawn to dusk.
  • It’s a little hard to find since you cannot park right next to it. You have to park in NW Energia St or NW Graf St and walk in the neighborhood accesses. But from both options, I prefer parking in NW Energia St; see here the right spot on the map.
  • Bring Sand toys and buckets for playing in the sandpit, bikes, skates, or scooters if you plan to use the paved trails.
  • Please follow the temporary rules during the COVID-19 public health emergency. Don’t forget masks and hand sanitizer.
